RFI: World #1 for M2M integrations

Manufacturers integrating wireless technology modules into their products face some new challenges in getting to market.

The arrival of the “machine to machine” (M2M) concept has spawned a simpler approach to incorporating wireless communications but can create a number of compliance issues around the performance of the wireless technologies and the electro magnetic compatibility (EMC) of the end product.
Bringing together a number of our Global Approvals services, RFI have been assisting our customers since 2006 on understanding and meeting the compliance needs for their integrated products. Over that time we have worked to assist in a number of areas outside of the typical markets (regulatory regions) and industry schemes requirements, but acknowledge the mainstream requirements as:
·         North America (FCC) – part 15, 22, 24, 247
·         Europe (CE Mark) – 301 489 series
·         Canada (Industry Canada) – RSS 965EN
·         PTCRB
·         Bluetooth SIG

Along with being able to meet the complete M2M approvals needed, our established expertise and record for these markets and schemes means customers prefer to utilise RFI, even over a more local laboratory. The common M2M applications that we work within are:

·         Security
·         Telematics and In-vehicle
·         Healthcare
·         Vending, Retail and Banking
·         Connected Building
·         Smart Metering
And in conjunction with our Payments & Security team, we are now the only independent laboratory in the world to offer the complete M2M approvals service for Point Of Sale (POS) terminal manufacturers - whether it be contact or contactless - covering all the regulatory and EMV requirements required to get to market.

The challenges faced with M2M integrations can be very new and over-whelming for some manufacturers unfamiliar with the technology. RFI has a network of preferred partners working in the M2M arena who we are happy to recommend to manufacturers that are starting out on the end product development or are facing challenges with the integration.

From May 2010, we are pleased to announce our enhanced M2M package now includes:
·         overall project management by one of our approvals experts
·         the ability to instantly call upon our resident technical consultants, should any wireless design considerations or EMC fixes be required
·          suitable pre-compliance, backed up by our over-all compliance guarantee
