At RFI, our testing and approval services check all aspects of smart cards: physical characteristics, compatibility with EMV and ISO smartcard standards. The implementation electrical or radio frequency interface, as well as the protocol will be tested as part of the ISO/ICAO or EMVCo or Visa Level 1 test requirements. The Level 2 implementation of Visa or EMVCo applications as well as Visa Global Platform implementation will be tested against Visa and EMVCo latest test specifications. We are an accredited laboratory for both Visa and EMVCo, amongst others, and have a wide range of experience in smart card testing.
This series of tests covers ISO standards compatibility.
ISO 7816 covers the physical, electrical and communication protocol interface of contact smartcard products. ISO 10373 covers the physical, radio frequency and communication protocol interface of contactless smartcard products.
This is the first stage of smart card product testing. The Level 1 ensures cards and terminals are interoperable for the communication interface. Testing encompasses Electrical Characteristics, 3 volt and 5 volt operation, and ‘answer to reset’ and communication protocols T=0 or T=1.
The analogue testing ensures cards contactless inlays are designed to comply with Visa radio frequency and load modulation requirements. The digital testing encompasses Type A or Type B communication protocols testing.
As an EMV application performs debit card and credit card as well ascontactless payment functions, a card compliant with this specification will be used as a debit card or a credit card in connection with an EMV or Visa approved payment terminal.
An EMV Operating System (OS) allows the development of debit card and credit card functions. A card compliant with this specification will be used as a debit card or a credit card in connection with an EMV approved payment terminal. Visa GlobalPlatform approval is based on the GlobalPlatform specification.
RFI also provides Pre-Qualification Services to support smart card product development.
