RFI China becomes PTCRB primary laboratory

RFI China has been appointed a full PTCRB laboratory for both GERAN (GSM) and WCDMA (3G) terminals. We believe this will be a major benefit for manufacturers in Asia as it means that that they can gain all the benefits of RFI quality without the approval having to be routed via the UK.

This appointment is in addition to the full PTCRB status currently held by other members of the RFI group (in the UK and in Taiwan); and is the result of a successful investment programme in China to increase testing capacity for GSM and WCDMA technologies in line with customer needs.

In both China and Taiwan, we have invested alongside well known certification organisations (specifically the SRTC in China and Sporton in Taiwan) to create globally one of the largest and most diverse range of cellular platforms available in the market today.

Following on from this appointment, RFI will be migrating other parts of its WCDMA testing to China. This will allow RFI to offer a uniquely flexible approach that reduces the end user cost for cellular testing. Our objective is to offer European levels of service and quality, at Asian prices.

These changes form part of a significant enhancement of RFI’s overall technical capability, including further developments of our UK based services (including GSM and wireless approvals, EMC testing, SAR evaluations, TDMA noise testing, smart card and mobile payment device certification, security evaluation services, regulatory support and technical consultancy).

In addition, we will continue to develop our added value services under the “Smart Approvals” banner; with the focus on making the approvals process simpler so that RFI customers can launch on-time and on-budget.

RFI’s Chief Executive, Stephen Kirk, commented: “I am delighted to be able to announce this change, which is the culmination of many years of work. I believe it will allow us to bring the best commercial terms to our customers in Europe and North America, whilst continuing to offer a premium service."
