RFI testing and approval services check all aspects of payment terminals. The process is managed by EMVCo and is called Terminal Type Approval. EMVCo establishes the process to test compliance with the EMV Specifications. Type Approval is a test that assures interoperability and consistent behaviour between compliant applications. Our wide range of experience in terminal testing ensures we can help you meet approval standards and get your products to market in the quickest possible time.
EMV Level 1 For Contact Terminals
EMV Level 1 contact testing is the first stage of EMV contact Terminal product testing. All EMV Terminals must be in compliance with EMV2000 specifications and pass the testing against EMVCo Level 1 test plan.
EMV Level 1 ensures a level of interoperability for cards and acceptance devices. Testing encompasses:
• Electrical characteristics
• Transmission protocols T=0 or T=1
• Answer to reset
• 3 volt and 5 volt
If the product submitted for test supports both T=0 and T=1 protocols, please note that a separate chip card product submission for testing is required for each protocol, and each protocol is tested independently. As test results have identified that each protocol may behave differently, both protocols require separate testing.
EMV Level 2 For Contact Terminals
These tests verify compliance with debit/credit application requirements (as defined in the EMV specifications). We can perform different scenarios, depending on terminal vendor implementation strategy: EMV Level 2 Static Kernel Type Approval, EMV Level 2 Multi-configurable Kernel Type Approval, or Multi Pinpad Type Approval.
EMV Level 1 For Contactless Terminals
These tests are performed to V2.0.X of the EMVCo Contactless Communication Protocol Specification. Correct positioning of the card emulator is particularly important to perform accurate testing of the contactless reader, which is why we use a robot to ensure our results are repeatable.
Visa Contactless Payment Specification
As a Visa contactless application performs contactless payment functions, a card compliant with the above specification will be used in connection with an EMV or Visa approved payment terminal.
